Sound

mxm-chorus-06 is the Roland JUNO-106 chorus already built into mxm-poly-06. The standalone plugin depends on that DSP in place, so the two products do not carry separate copies that can drift apart.

One triangle moves two bucket-brigade delay lines in opposite phase. The wet path rolls off above 10 kHz, while the dry path stays open. Circuit noise enters where the delay chips would add it. The two outputs create width by disagreeing in time, then collapse when summed to mono.

The JUNO-106 had three switch positions. Here they become detents on a continuous Rate control and the factory presets One, Two, and Onetwo. At those presets, the standalone effect matches the chorus inside the synth sample for sample under the documented comparison conditions.

Four controls, no spare switch

Rate sets the triangle speed. Depth sets the delay swing. Mix adds wet signal against a dry path that does not turn down. Noise runs from silence to the circuit level.

Mix at zero is Off. Once its short mute has closed, the delay lines are emptied and the chorus core stops running. The host may sleep it; if the host keeps calling, processing costs a copy. Raising Mix starts with empty lines, so old audio never returns from before the bypass.

Interface

All four knobs use one size and one row. Mixed knob sizes moved their value labels onto different lines, which made a simple effect look misaligned. The equal row keeps attention on order: Mix for the comparison, Rate for character, Depth for sweep, Noise for the circuit floor.

The Sweep display shows delay time across a horizontal axis. Left and right dots cross at the centre while the shaded range shows Depth in time. The display reads the modulator value used by the audio thread rather than running a second animation clock.

At Mix zero, the dots disappear and an Off label joins the grey display. The Mix knob remains active because it is the way back in.

Presets

One, Two, and Onetwo are the circuit’s three positions. Init starts at One with the effect engaged, since inserting an effect should let you hear it.

The three circuit rates are exact detents. Depth lands at the circuit midpoint, while Mix and Noise land at the circuit level. User presets use the shared MXM browser.

On a stereo track, the engaged effect sums the input to mono before making a new stereo image. At Mix zero the original left and right channels pass untouched.
